Momonga, an average salaryman, spends his free time engrossed in Yggdrasil, a DMMO-RPG popular in Japan for its vast world and customization options. Sadly, Yggdrasil’s servers are taken offline in the year 2138. Eager to witness the game’s final moments, Momonga, who is the chief of the Ainz Ooal Gown guild, logs in for one last time and heads to the guild’s headquarters.
As he reminisces about his comrades and adventures, he prepares to be automatically logged out at midnight. To his surprise, he finds himself in a new world—trapped in the form of his avatar where non-player characters are sentient beings.
With no other option but to adapt, he takes on his guild’s name and hopes for other players to recognize him. Driven to make sense of this strange situation, Momonga sets out on a quest to unravel the mysteries that lie in this unexplored world.
